The Rivers State Government will hold a thanksgiving service on Sunday to mark the transition from emergency rule to democratic governance after months of federal administration.

The Rivers State Government has announced activities to mark its transition from emergency rule to democratic governance, beginning with a thanksgiving service on Sunday.

According to a statement by Secretary to the State Government, Ibibia Worika, the inter-denominational service will take place at the Ecumenical Centre, Abonima Wharf Road, Port Harcourt.

Guests, including traditional rulers, security chiefs, council chairmen, and industry leaders, are expected to be seated by 9:30 a.m. ahead of the 10 a.m. start. Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd), the state administrator during emergency rule, will serve as Special Guest of Honour.

“The Government of Rivers State is pleased to invite… stakeholders… as part of transition activities to usher in Democratic Governance in Rivers State,” Worika said.

President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers on March 18, 2025, following a political crisis between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

Tinubu appointed Ibas as administrator to restore constitutional order amid security concerns and institutional paralysis.
