NUPENG has warned Nigerians not to be deceived by Dangote refinery’s offer of free petrol delivery, describing it as a “Greek gift” aimed at undermining union rights.
The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has described the free petrol distribution announced by the Dangote refinery as a “Greek gift.”
In a statement signed by President Williams Akporeha and General Secretary Afolabi Olawale, the union alleged that the scheme is designed to weaken its Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) branch.
“Nigerians should not be deceived by the offer of free nationwide delivery of petroleum products… Everything is targeted at crushing NUPENG and its PTD Branch,” the statement read.
The union also accused Dangote of denying workers the right to unionise and sponsoring divisions within its PTD branch. Dangote has rejected the claims, insisting that membership in rival associations remains voluntary.
