Tomeka Thiam, wife of Senegalese-American singer Akon, has filed for divorce just days before what would have been their 29th wedding anniversary.
Court documents filed on Thursday, September 11, 2025, in Fulton County, Georgia, show that Tomeka is seeking dissolution of the marriage on the grounds of irreconcilable differences. She is requesting joint legal custody of their 17-year-old daughter, with visitation rights for Akon, as well as spousal support. The filing also urged the court to deny Akon’s request for spousal support from her.
Tomeka and Akon married in September 1996, and their nearly three-decade-long union is now set to end in court. The divorce marks a significant turn in the singer’s personal life, as the couple had been together since before his rise to global fame.
