NiMet forecasts thunderstorms and moderate rainfall nationwide from Monday to Wednesday, with risks of flash floods in northern states and advisories for motorists, farmers, residents, and airlines.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a nationwide weather outlook predicting thunderstorms and rainfall from Monday through Wednesday.

On Monday, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected in the northern states including Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba. Flash floods are likely in Adamawa, Taraba, and Gombe. In the central region, the morning will be cloudy with sunshine intervals, turning to moderate rains in Niger, Kogi, Kwara, the FCT, and Benue. The southern states will see cloudy skies in the morning and moderate rain in places like Ekiti, Ondo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River later in the day.

On Tuesday, morning conditions across the north will remain cloudy with sunshine intervals, with thunderstorms and moderate rains expected later in Borno, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, and Adamawa. Central states—Kogi, Niger, Kwara, the FCT, and Nasarawa—will follow a similar pattern; southern states may experience light to moderate rainfall in Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Delta.

On Wednesday, skies across all regions are forecast to be mostly cloudy with sunshine intervals. The northern states will have lower chances of thunderstorms, while the central region may see light rains, and the southern region moderate rains later in the day. NiMet urged motorists to avoid driving during heavy rainfall; farmers to refrain from applying fertiliser or pesticides just before rain to avoid nutrient leaching. Residents should secure loose objects, disconnect electrical appliances, and avoid tall trees during storms, while airlines are advised to monitor airport‐specific weather reports.
