ICPC secured the conviction of SRRBDA director Rabiu Musa Matazu for diverting N305,000, with the court sentencing him to concurrent prison terms.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has secured the conviction of Rabiu Musa Matazu, Director of Administration at the Sokoto Rima River Basin Development Authority (SRRBDA), for diverting public funds.
Matazu was arraigned before Justice Abbas Bawule of the Katsina State High Court in Suit No. KTH/7C/2022 on a four-count charge of criminal breach of trust and abuse of office. Prosecutor Ibrahim Garba told the court that the defendant received N305,000 rent proceeds from SRRBDA properties in Katsina State through his subordinate, Lawal Dan Sarki, but failed to remit the funds to the agency’s account.
One of the charges read: “That you, Rabiu Musa Matazu, … used your position as Director of Administration … to confer unfair advantage upon yourself … and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.”
Justice Bawule sentenced him to concurrent terms, including five years’ imprisonment without the option of a fine.
