Peter Obi urged Rivers leaders to embrace peace, warning that the emergency rule represented a constitutional breach.

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged political leaders in Rivers State to learn lessons from the six-month emergency rule declared earlier in the year.

Reacting to the suspension of the rule by President Bola Tinubu, Obi described the intervention as a constitutional breach that weakened democracy. He urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara, state lawmakers, and other stakeholders to embrace peace and reconciliation.

“I just hope that some lessons were learned by all the gladiators in the Rivers State impasse. Great minds remind us that the only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing,” Obi said on Thursday via his X handle.

He congratulated Rivers citizens for their endurance and reminded leaders that “a true leader is the one who admits his/her mistakes, is smart enough to learn from them, and is strong enough to correct them.”
