Rivers State remains in a state of uncertainty and political tension as Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s precise whereabouts are unknown following his reinstatement, with legislative factions meeting separately and residents anxiously awaiting his return.
The Rivers State government is in limbo as Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s whereabouts remain unknown following his reinstatement earlier this week. Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, the Sole Administrator, officially handed over power to Fubara after President Bola Tinubu lifted the emergency rule that had suspended him six months ago.
Despite the transition, uncertainty prevails. Arise Television’s correspondent in Rivers State, Friday Olokor, reports that although “the atmosphere is cool, calm, cozy,” people are anxious due to the lack of clarity on when or where the governor will re-assume duties.
The Rivers State House of Assembly, still riven by factionalism, has reportedly been holding separate meetings to work on legislative business in the absence of a clear leader. Olokor noted, “a leadership is not supposed to have a vacuum since the governor is not around , the atmosphere is tense,” adding that public services and governance have suffered as a result.
