Nigeria’s Super Eagles have dropped to 45th globally and sixth in Africa in the latest FIFA rankings after a run of poor results.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles have fallen one place to 45th in the latest FIFA world rankings released on Thursday, slipping to sixth on the African continent. The drop follows a string of disappointing performances, including a troubled home-based squad’s campaign at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) and the senior team’s narrow win over Rwanda in Uyo before managing only a draw in South Africa.
The 2024 Africa Cup of Nations silver medalists lost their fifth-place African spot to Ivory Coast. Morocco, now ranked 11th globally, remain Africa’s top side, followed by Senegal, Egypt, and Algeria.
Globally, Spain climbed to the number one position, overtaking Argentina, who dropped to third, while France moved into second place. Zimbabwe recorded the biggest fall among African teams, sliding nine spots to 125th.
In women’s football, Spain also rose to the summit, displacing the United States, while Nigeria’s Super Falcons maintained their 36th position worldwide.
FIFA said rankings were determined by results from recent international fixtures.
