Nigerians facing visa hurdles in the US, UK, and Canada are increasingly considering Germany, Portugal, and Australia for their friendlier migration pathways.
With visa rejection rates increasing in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada, Nigerians seeking opportunities abroad are turning to alternative destinations offering more accessible immigration routes.
Migration experts say countries such as Germany, Portugal, and Australia are attracting significant interest due to simplified visa processes, lower relocation costs, and clear pathways to residency.
Germany has become one of the most attractive destinations, offering a Job Seeker Visa that allows professionals to enter the country for up to six months while seeking employment. Students also benefit from relatively low tuition fees and post-study work visas. “The demand for skilled workers in IT, engineering, and healthcare makes Germany a practical ‘Japa’ option,” experts note.
Portugal, meanwhile, offers the D7 Visa for passive income earners and remote workers, and a Golden Visa scheme for investors. With lower living costs and citizenship eligibility after five years, Portugal is emerging as one of Europe’s easiest entry points.
Australia’s points-based immigration system continues to favour young, skilled applicants in nursing, teaching, IT, and construction. Its Temporary Graduate Visa also eases the transition from study to work, providing opportunities for permanent residency.
