A powerful explosion on Saturday shook the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) factory in the Kakuri Industrial Layout of Kaduna State, leaving one person dead and several others injured.

The cause of the blast has not yet been established, but residents reported that the sound reverberated across large parts of the city, particularly in Chikun and Kaduna South Local Government Areas. Eyewitnesses described the explosion as severe, with tremors felt in surrounding communities.

Emergency sources confirmed that one person lost their life in the incident, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries. The wounded were taken to nearby medical facilities, including the Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna, where they are receiving treatment.

Security agencies and emergency officials are expected to conduct investigations into the cause of the blast and assess the level of destruction within the facility.

As of press time, neither DICON nor relevant authorities had issued an official statement on the explosion.

The Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria, established in 1964, is the country’s primary military hardware manufacturer, and its Kaduna plant is a strategic national facility.
