Peter Obi has urged Nigeria to respect and empower teachers, stressing that doing so is crucial to tackling poverty, inequality, and unemployment.

Labour Party presidential candidate in 2023, Peter Obi, has urged respect for teachers as a way to end poverty in the country.

He also called for more investment in education, prioritising teacher welfare, and creating an environment where educators are empowered and inspired.

Obi’s X thread on Saturday followed the “Let There Be Teachers Conference 2025,” where over 60,000 teachers gathered at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.

The former Anambra State governor described the event as the world’s largest assembly of teachers, noting it was not just about setting a Guinness World Record but affirming the central role of educators. He wrote: “Teachers are the true nation-builders. Without them, no profession exists.”
