Gunmen ambushed a convoy in Kogi, killing a soldier and abducting four Chinese expatriates, as security forces launched rescue efforts.

Gunmen have killed a soldier and abducted four Chinese expatriates in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State. The attack occurred on Thursday, September 19, at Saminaka, Ejiba area, when assailants ambushed a convoy of Vau & Co. Mining Company conveying Chinese engineers to a mining site.

According to security sources, “In the attack, one soldier, a Private from 12 Brigade, Lokoja, was shot dead, while Inspector Jubril Mohammed of 45 PMF, Force Headquarters Abuja, sustained gunshot injury on his left arm. Four Chinese nationals identified as Mr. Zhou Dansu, Mr. Zhou Hai, Mr. Zhou Jiajun and Mr. Fan Xiuguo were abducted by the gunmen.”

Counterinsurgency expert Zagazola Makama confirmed that the injured officer is receiving treatment at ECWA Hospital, Egbe. Security forces, including the Army, police, and local vigilantes, have been mobilised to track the attackers. The incident adds to rising cases of abductions targeting Chinese miners in Nigeria.
