Trump’s border czar Tom Homan allegedly accepted a $50,000 bribe in an FBI sting, but the Justice Department closed the probe citing lack of evidence.

President Donald Trump’s border czar Tom Homan allegedly accepted a $50,000 cash bribe from an undercover FBI agent during a sting operation last year, though the Justice Department has since closed the probe, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters on Sunday.

According to the sources, Homan promised immigration-related government contracts once he rejoined the Trump administration in exchange for the money. The sting, set up near the end of Joe Biden’s presidency, recorded Homan accepting a cash-filled bag at a Cava restaurant. A grand jury inquiry in Texas was underway before FBI Director Kash Patel shut down the case over the summer.

“This matter originated under the previous administration … they found no credible evidence of any criminal wrongdoing,” Patel and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said. The White House defended Homan, calling him “a career law enforcement officer … doing a phenomenal job.”

The now-closed probe was first reported by MSNBC.
