UNILAG Faculty of Education President, Balogun Damilola, drowned at Museyo Beach in Lagos while attempting a backflip, sparking widespread grief among students.
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) community has been thrown into mourning following the death of Balogun Damilola, President of the Faculty of Education, who drowned during a beach hangout on Saturday, September 20, 2025.
According to reports, the incident occurred at Museyo Beach in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, when Damilola, fondly called Ayanfe Eledumare, attempted a backflip at the water’s edge while filming a video. Witnesses said a strong current swept him away, and despite frantic rescue attempts, his body was later recovered about two kilometres from where he disappeared.
The tragedy has shocked the UNILAG community, with many students paying tribute on social media. A close friend, Doyindoski, wrote on X: “He was my roommate. Always brought Lacoco and the likes to the room. A real vibe, man. And bro just became the President of his faculty… RIP Balogun Damilola.”
By Monday, neither the school management nor security agencies had officially commented on the incident.
