Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show will return to ABC after a week-long suspension over backlash to his comments on the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show will return to ABC on Tuesday, nearly a week after production was suspended following backlash over the host’s remarks on the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Disney, which owns ABC, said the move was initially taken to “avoid further inflaming a tense situation.” A company statement added: “We felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive.”

Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr had threatened to revoke ABC affiliate licenses, calling Kimmel’s comments “the sickest conduct possible.” Several affiliates, including Nexstar and Sinclair, announced they would drop the show, prompting ABC to suspend it indefinitely.

In his monologue last week, Kimmel offered condolences to Kirk’s family but criticized Republicans for politicizing the killing. Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was shot dead on September 10 at Utah Valley University during a conservative youth event.
