Shettima will deliver Nigeria’s UNGA statement Wednesday, unveiling climate pledges and reinforcing Tinubu’s global diplomacy agenda.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima will deliver Nigeria’s national statement on Wednesday at the ongoing United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
Speaking on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, Mr Shettima is scheduled to address the Assembly between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. local time.
Nigeria is expected to unveil its updated Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement during the speech.
The vice-president attended the opening session on Tuesday, where U.S. President Donald Trump welcomed world leaders.
Stanley Nkwocha, spokesman for Mr Shettima, said the country’s message will resonate globally. “Whether in educational diplomacy, cultural diplomacy, sports, security, or economic diplomacy, President Tinubu has transformed how Nigeria engages with the international community,” he stated.
He added that Nigeria’s 2024 UNGA call for reforms, including more seats for Africa on the UN Security Council, remains a benchmark of its international advocacy.
