Obi: Viral images with Trump, MC Oluomo are doctored

Peter Obi dismissed viral images showing him with Donald Trump and MC Oluomo as doctored fabrications aimed at misleading the public.

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has denied claims that he recently met with former United States President Donald Trump and National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) chairman Musiliu “MC Oluomo” Akinsanya, describing viral photographs suggesting such meetings as fake.

In a statement on Wednesday titled “Clarification on Fake News and Photos,” posted on his X handle, Obi said the images and accompanying narratives were deliberately manufactured to deceive Nigerians. “My attention has been drawn to some pictures currently circulating on social media, falsely portraying meetings I never had. One of such images purports to show me with US President Donald Trump, alongside a fabricated claim that he praised me,” Obi wrote.

“Another seeks to depict me with MC Oluomo in his office. Let me state categorically that both pictures are fake and doctored, and the accompanying stories are entirely false. I have not met Mr Trump recently, nor have I had any such meeting with MC Oluomo,” he added.

Obi warned that such fabrications illustrate the dangers of fake news “deliberately designed to confuse, misguide, and distract the public.” He stressed that any genuine meetings would be shared personally on his social media platforms and reaffirmed his focus on tackling insecurity, strengthening the rule of law, and lifting Nigerians out of poverty.
