Tinubu Summons Ex-Rivers Administrator to Aso Villa
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday summoned the immediate past Rivers State Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), to the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Ibas, who left office on September 17 after a six-month tenure, was accompanied by the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, and the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukayede.
The meeting came amid scrutiny of the ₦254 billion spent during Ibas’ emergency administration, with the Rivers State House of Assembly already probing state finances under his tenure.
Police Chief Presents ₦2.17bn Cheques to Families of Fallen Officers
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has presented cheques worth ₦2,171,124,041.87 to 1,574 beneficiaries and next-of-kin of deceased officers.
He said the gesture, made under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes, was part of the police leadership’s effort to support families of fallen heroes.
INEC Declares Campaigns Open for 2026 FCT Council Polls
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the commencement of electioneering campaigns for the 2026 Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections.
Campaigns will begin on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, and close at midnight on Thursday, February 19, 2026.
INEC urged political parties and candidates to adhere strictly to the Electoral Act in their activities.
Bandits Kill Pregnant Woman, Others in Kwara Attack
Armed bandits on Tuesday stormed villages in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing a pregnant woman and others.
Residents said eight people were abducted while several others sustained injuries during the attack.
Security agencies and vigilantes have begun efforts to track the assailants.
Mob Lynches Suspected Child Kidnapper in Delta
An angry mob on Wednesday set ablaze a woman accused of attempting to abduct a seven-year-old boy in Agbarho community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Eyewitnesses alleged she hid the child in a sack while holding a Bible, before she was caught and lynched.
Naira Strengthens Across FX Markets
The Naira appreciated on Wednesday to ₦1,515 per dollar in the parallel market, stronger than Tuesday’s ₦1,518.
At the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM), the currency also gained, trading at ₦1,486.8 per dollar.
Dealers attributed the improvement to increased dollar inflows.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has promised to prioritise Yoruba interests if elected president in 2027.
He dismissed claims of possible Hausa/Fulani domination under his watch, citing his marriage to Titi Atiku Abubakar from Osun State as proof of his strong ties to the Yoruba.
Atiku described the Yoruba people as his “extended family.”

Mother, Four Children Found Unconscious in Benue, One Dead
Five members of a family were discovered unconscious in their home at Akaajime community, Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State, on Wednesday.
Neighbours rushed the victims – a mother and her four children – to a private hospital, but one child, a four-year-old boy, was confirmed dead before arrival.
The cause of the incident remains unknown.

The Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) has urged Dangote Petroleum Refinery to sell fuel more widely and at affordable rates.
