Atiku Abubakar affirmed his deep ties to the Yoruba people through his marriage and pledged inclusive governance if elected president in 2027.

Former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has described the Yoruba people as his “extended family and in-laws,” highlighting his decades-long marriage to a Yoruba woman. Speaking in an interview, Atiku praised the Yoruba as “one of the finest species of the human race,” adding, “I count myself extremely lucky indeed to have had a wife from amongst this noble specie… which implies that the bond uniting me together with the Yorubas is aptly like the genetic bond of a family.”

He dismissed fears of Hausa/Fulani domination should he win the 2027 presidential election, stressing, “The fear that my ascension to presidency might lead to Hausa/Fulani domination… is absolutely unfounded because the entire Yoruba stock are my larger extended family and in-laws.”

Atiku recalled marrying his first wife, Titi, in the 1970s and raising four Yoruba children. He lauded the Yoruba as “sophisticated and highly educated,” adding that his marital union has deepened his attachment to the region and strengthened his commitment to inclusive governance.
