Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused the Presidency of sponsoring fake press releases in his name, warning that Nigerians should disregard such fabrications.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has alleged that the Presidency is behind a campaign of disinformation aimed at smearing his image.

In a statement signed by his media aide, Paul Ibe, Atiku distanced himself from one Kola Johnson, who has been issuing press statements purportedly on his behalf.

“We have observed with concern a certain self-styled ‘media consultant,’ one Kola Johnson, issuing press releases in the name of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar,” the statement said.

“Our findings point directly to the Presidency, which in its desperation to smear opposition leaders, has resorted to hiring faceless mercenaries to fabricate fake stories,” it added.

Atiku described as “particularly offensive” a claim that his administration would be dominated by a single ethnic group. He urged media houses to verify any statement attributed to him through his media office and called on Nigerians to remain vigilant against “calculated propaganda schemes.”
