Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has summoned all senior U.S. commanders to Virginia for an unexplained meeting amid recent firings and cuts in top military leadership.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has abruptly ordered hundreds of generals and admirals to assemble at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, next week, according to two people familiar with the move. The directive, described as unusual, gave no reason for the gathering of one-star officers and above, along with their senior advisers.
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell confirmed only that Hegseth “will be addressing his senior military leaders early next week.” The meeting follows a series of unexplained actions by Hegseth, including cutting top positions, firing senior Navy and Air Force leaders, and removing military lawyers. More recently, he dismissed the head of a U.S. intelligence agency after an assessment on Iranian nuclear sites angered President Trump.
Across the military, there are about 800 generals and admirals stationed globally, many commanding thousands of troops.
