Odinkalu and Sowore accuse FCT Minister Nyesom Wike of concealing multimillion-dollar Florida properties through his family, a charge Wike denies.

Human rights lawyer Professor Chidi Odinkalu has accused Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike of violating Nigeria’s asset declaration rules by failing to disclose multimillion-dollar properties allegedly registered in the names of his wife and children in the United States. Odinkalu wrote on X that “assets in the name of his wife & children since 2008 concern him bcos they shd be declared,” adding that the minister “has only begun” to face scrutiny.

Documents cited by West Africa Weekly and SaharaReporters show that Wike’s wife, Justice Eberechi Wike, and their three children acquired three Florida homes worth over $6 million through cash transactions between 2021 and 2023. SaharaReporters said activist Omoyele Sowore petitioned Florida’s attorney general on September 22, alleging money laundering and seeking forfeiture.

Wike dismissed the allegations in a Channels TV interview, insisting, “The property was a gift to my wife from her family,” and adding, “My wife and children are Americans. I don’t even like going to America.”
