President Bola Tinubu joined dignitaries at Mapo Hall, Ibadan, for the coronation of Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan, a ceremony steeped in history and cultural pride.
According to PUNCH, President Bola Tinubu on Friday arrived at Mapo Hall, Ibadan, to attend the coronation of Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Tinubu’s arrival was greeted with cheers from a large crowd of dignitaries and citizens, marking the highlight of a week-long series of events celebrating Ladoja’s ascension. The ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, who presented the staff of office to the new monarch.
Ladoja, 81, a former Oyo governor and senator, rose through the Olubadan chieftaincy ranks over three decades before succeeding Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who died on July 7. His coronation is historically significant as he is the first former governor to occupy the revered throne.
“The Olubadan of Ibadanland is the paramount traditional ruler of Ibadan,” PUNCH noted, adding that the stool carries deep cultural, historical, and political weight.
Festivities included traditional drumming, dancing, and vibrant displays of Yoruba heritage.
