Peter Obi says his goodwill message to Oba Ladoja was misunderstood and not meant to breach protocol.
Mr. Peter Obi, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has clarified his goodwill message to Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja after criticism that his wording breached protocol.
In a statement on Sunday via X, Obi said: “I felicitated with my dear elder brother, the newly crowned, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.” He explained that using “dear elder brother” is his personal style when addressing respected figures.
Obi added that he often uses the same expression for monarchs like Igwe Alfred Achebe, Obi of Onitsha. “In matters of wrongdoing, motive is important. I assure all that my words were borne out of untrammelled goodwill,” he said.
