President Donald Trump said peace talks to end the Gaza war are in “final stages,” calling it the “first real chance for peace in the Middle East,” though disputes over Hamas and the Palestinian Authority remain.
President Donald Trump said Sunday that negotiations to end the war in Gaza are “at their final stages,” and could open “the first real chance for peace in the Middle East.”
“Everybody has come together to get a deal, but we still have to get it done,” Trump told Axios’ Barak Ravid. He praised Arab countries for their cooperation, saying, “The Arab world wants peace, Israel wants peace and Bibi wants peace.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was in New York meeting with White House envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump adviser Jared Kushner to finalize details. According to Axios, differences remain over disarming Hamas and the role of the Palestinian Authority, which Netanyahu opposes.
Hamas suspended negotiations earlier this month after a failed assassination attempt on its leaders in Doha. Meanwhile, over 160 nations, including France and the U.K., have recognized Palestinian autonomy, angering Israel. Trump is scheduled to meet Netanyahu at the White House Monday.
