A gunman rammed into a Michigan Mormon church, set it ablaze and opened fire, killing two people before being shot dead by police.

At least two people were killed and several others critically injured on Sunday after a gunman set fire to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, Michigan, before opening fire on congregants.

Police said a 40-year-old man from nearby Burton rammed his vehicle through the front entrance and began shooting with an assault rifle as more than 100 worshippers, including children, attended a morning service.

Grand Blanc Township Police Chief William Renye said the attacker was “neutralized” in a shootout with responding officers as flames engulfed the chapel. “Ten gunshot victims have been transported to local hospitals at this time including one who has been confirmed deceased,” he announced. A second victim later died in hospital.

Authorities discovered three improvised devices at the scene and believe the fire was “deliberately set by the suspect.” Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer condemned the attack, while President Donald Trump decried the “epidemic of violence” in a Truth Social post.
