The Federal Government has rejected claims of a Christian genocide in Nigeria, insisting that terrorists target all citizens regardless of religion.
The Federal Government has dismissed claims that terrorists in Nigeria are waging a systematic genocide against Christians.
In a statement on Sunday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, described such allegations by “international platforms and online influencers” as “false, baseless, despicable, and divisive.” He said, “Portraying Nigeria’s security challenges as a targeted campaign against a single religious group is a gross misrepresentation of reality.”
According to Idris, extremists have attacked Nigerians of all religions. “These criminals target all who reject their murderous ideology, regardless of faith,” he said.
The minister noted that from May 2023 to February 2025, security forces killed 13,543 terrorists and criminals and rescued nearly 10,000 hostages. He also highlighted the recent capture of the leadership of Ansaru, an al-Qaeda affiliate, and over 700 convictions of Boko Haram suspects.
Idris urged foreign commentators to act responsibly. “Sensationalism and divisive rhetoric only serve the interests of terrorists,” he warned.
