Trump to press Netanyahu on Gaza peace talks at White House

President Donald Trump will host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House to press him toward adopting a U.S.-led Gaza peace plan.

President Donald Trump is set to host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday in a high-stakes meeting at the White House aimed at finalising a Gaza peace plan. He contends that a deal to end the nearly two-year war, free hostages held by Hamas and disarm the group “is effectively done” following talks with Arab leaders.

Netanyahu, however, has shown reluctance. In a recent UN address, he vowed to “finish the job” against Hamas and rejected proposals for a Palestinian state, while signalling resistance to halting the military campaign in Gaza City.

The meeting marks Netanyahu’s fourth trip to the White House since Trump’s return to power. The outcome may hinge on how hard Trump presses him to accept a plan not yet embraced by either Israel or Hamas, said Natan Sachs of the Middle East Institute.

The two leaders are scheduled to deliver a joint news conference at 1:15 pm US Eastern Time (1715 GMT).
