Dangote must apologise for mass sack – TUC

The Trade Union Congress has asked Dangote Refinery to reinstate over 800 sacked workers and issue a public apology, accusing the company of violating constitutional rights.

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has called on the management of Dangote Petrochemical Refinery to apologise and reinstate over 800 workers recently dismissed.

Speaking on Monday, TUC Secretary General Nuhu Toro said the refinery acted in violation of the workers’ constitutional rights.

“The Dangote and PENGASSAN rift concerns the TUC because PENGASSAN is an affiliate of the TUC, and there is no way they can beat your child, and the father stays aloof,” Toro said.

He added that the union expected a reversal of the “arbitrary dismissal” and a public apology, stressing that “unionisation is a right, and workers in Dangote have the right to belong to a union of their choice.”

Toro accused the company of breaching a prior agreement not to victimise workers, arguing that claims of sabotage used to justify the sackings were unsubstantiated.
