Trump announces 100% tariff on foreign-made movies

President Donald Trump has renewed his pledge to impose a 100% tariff on foreign-made films entering the U.S., a move that could disrupt Hollywood’s global business model.

President Donald Trump on Monday said he would impose a 100% tariff on all films produced overseas and brought into the U.S., reviving a proposal he first floated in May.

“Our movie making business has been stolen from the United States of America, by other Countries, just like stealing candy from a baby,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The plan has sparked uncertainty across Hollywood, where international co-productions and overseas shoots are central to studio strategies. Warner Bros Discovery, Paramount Skydance and Netflix declined to comment, while Comcast also withheld a response.

“There is too much uncertainty, and this latest move raises more questions than answers,” said analyst Paolo Pescatore. “Costs are likely to increase, and this will inevitably be passed on to consumers.”

It remains unclear what legal authority Trump would rely on to implement the tariffs. The White House has yet to comment, leaving industry leaders waiting forclarity.
