ARISE TV has announced the death of 29-year-old news anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu, who was killed during a robbery at her Abuja home, prompting calls for swift investigation and justice.

ARISE Television has confirmed the death of one of its news anchors, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, who was reportedly killed during an armed robbery attack at her residence in Katampe, Abuja. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025, and is currently under investigation by the Nigeria Police.

In a statement signed by Hadiza Usman-Ajayi on behalf of ARISE News management, the organisation described the late presenter, fondly called “Sommie”, as “a vibrant voice that engaged and connected with our viewers.” It added, “Her voice is now silent, but her spirit, passion and legacy will endure as part of our collective memory. We remain in shock and call for a speedy investigation, apprehension, and prosecution of the culprits.”

Maduagwu, aged 29, was also a trained lawyer and regarded as a professional and supportive colleague. Efforts to obtain comments from the FCT Police Command were unsuccessful as the authorities had yet to respond.
