North Korea and China agreed to strengthen ties and resist “hegemonism,” signaling a united front against the United States following the Kim-Xi summit and military parade in Beijing.

The foreign ministers of North Korea and China pledged Sunday to deepen bilateral ties and jointly resist “hegemonism,” remarks seen as directed at the United States.

North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui met with her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing, weeks after Kim Jong Un and Xi Jinping held their first summit in more than six years and attended a massive military parade alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin. The rare joint appearance suggested potential three-way coordination against Washington.

Choe cited Kim as saying closer ties with China remain Pyongyang’s “unwavering position,” while Wang emphasized solidifying strategic communications. China’s Xinhua reported Wang opposes “all forms of hegemonism,” while Choe vowed to cooperate with Beijing in resisting “unilateralism and power politics.”

Analysts note North Korea has leaned on Russia during the Ukraine war but now seeks to reinforce ties with China, its main trading partner, as it prepares for a major anniversary military parade next month.
