PENGASSAN vs Dangote: FG mediation fails as Nigerians pay more for petrol

Petrol prices hit N920 per litre as FG-brokered talks between Dangote Refinery and PENGASSAN collapse in deadlock.

Nigerians are paying more for petrol as the standoff between Dangote Refinery and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) deepens.

A closed-door meeting on Monday involving the Federal Government, Dangote Refinery, and PENGASSAN ended in a “deadlock,” union president Festus Osifo told DAILY POST.

Checks across Abuja revealed that pump prices have risen to N910–N920 per litre from N890, with Ranoil and Empire filling stations already adjusting their meters. PENGASSAN, backed by the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union of Nigeria, has vowed to continue its strike over the alleged mass sacking of members. “All comrades are therefore directed to continue with the industrial action until further instruction,” PENGASSAN secretary Lumumba Ighotemu declared.

Meanwhile, the National Industrial Court restrained the strike, but the union dismissed knowledge of the order.

Independent marketers attributed the price hike to “anxiety” from the feud, urging swift government intervention to prevent further hardship.
