New details reveal ARISE News anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu died after jumping from her window during a robbery, with police delays and neglect blamed for her tragic death.

Fresh revelations have surfaced regarding the death of ARISE News anchor, reporter, and producer Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, who died during an armed robbery at her Katampe residence in Abuja on September 29, 2025.

Initial reports suggested the 29-year-old was killed by the robbers, but family friend Kaanayo Nwachukwu said she sustained fatal injuries while trying to escape. “The armed robbers came to her apartment complex. They went from one flat to another, robbing their occupants. The police were called, but they didn’t show. The commotion … caused fear to grip Sommie. So, before the robbers made it to her own apartment, she jumped out through the window,” Nwachukwu wrote.

According to him, she was still alive when police arrived minutes later but “begged and begged the police (profusely) to take her to the hospital … they said they had no fuel in their vehicle.” She later died before help arrived.

Describing the incident as avoidable, Nwachukwu lamented, “That’s how Nigeria happened to this young, vibrant, promising star. SAD!!!”

Born on December 26, 1995, Sommie studied law in the UK before joining ARISE News in 2024. In a statement, the station mourned her as “a vibrant voice that engaged and connected with our viewers,” and urged police to conduct a thorough investigation.
