A pastor in Enugu has been remanded for allegedly raping two sisters during a deliverance session, confessing and blaming “the devil.”

A 63-year-old pastor, Luke Eze, has been remanded in prison custody for allegedly raping two sisters, aged 16 and 19, during a purported deliverance session in Enugu State, according to state Police spokesperson SP Daniel Ndukwe.

The incident occurred on September 7, 2025, at Eze’s church, City of Hope Ministry, also called Ọkụ Night. The younger sister was lured into an empty-mortar-pounding ritual where she was given a stupefying liquid that rendered her unconscious before being assaulted. When she failed to return home, her 19-year-old sister went to find her and suffered the same ordeal.

“Both victims regained consciousness the following afternoon to find themselves naked, with bloodstains and other physical evidence of the assault,” Ndukwe said. Two bottles of the substance used were recovered for forensic analysis.

The suspect confessed, blaming the act on “the devil.” He was arraigned after investigations by the Gender and Anti-Human Trafficking Section. CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa condemned the act as “abominable and senseless,” warning against predatory spiritual leaders.
