Adebimpe Akintola’s death brings to five the number of female Lagos council officials who have died in just two months.
The Lagos State Government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are mourning the death of Mrs. Adebimpe Akintola, Council Manager of Coker Aguda LCDA, who died on Monday and was buried the same day according to Islamic rites.
Akintola, who also chaired the Forum of Council Managers in Lagos, is the fifth female council official in the state to die since the inauguration of the current administration on July 27, 2025.
Other victims include Oluwakemi Rufai, councillor for Ward C, Ibeju Lekki, who died August 13; Zainab Shotayo of Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA, who died August 18; Princess Oluremi Ajose, Vice Chairman of Badagry West LCDA, who died September 20; and Basirat Mayabikan, councillor for Ward F, Shomolu, who died September 21.
Some Nigerians have called the string of deaths unusual, but Lagos APC spokesman Seye Oladejo dismissed any political undertone, saying: “It has nothing to do with politics. This is a surprise.”
