Atiku Abubakar says he is ready to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race if a younger, vibrant and widely acceptable candidate emerges under the African Democratic Congress.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said he is willing to step aside from the 2027 presidential race if a younger and more vibrant candidate emerges under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking in a BBC Hausa interview on Wednesday, Atiku denied being desperate for power, stressing that his only goal is “rescuing Nigeria from those who have held it hostage.”
He accused the ruling APC of using elements within the PDP to frustrate strong opposition, forcing him and others to consolidate under the ADC.
Atiku also criticised President Bola Tinubu for the 2023 fuel subsidy removal, saying it was poorly implemented and pushed millions into “unprecedented pain and poverty.”
He urged Nigerian youths to join the race, assuring them of his guidance and political support.
