President Bola Tinubu urged Nigerians to rise above religious and ethnic divisions, noting he has never tried to convert his pastor wife to Islam.
President Bola Tinubu has appealed to Plateau residents and Nigerians to embrace peace and unity, stressing that religious differences should not divide the nation. Speaking on Saturday at the Funeral Service of Nana Lydia Yilwatda in Jos, mother of All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the president said faith must not be a source of conflict.
“I inherited Islam from my family, I didn’t change; but my wife is a pastor and she prays for me at all times. I have never convinced or converted her; I believe in the freedom of religion,” he said. “We are praying and answerable to the same Almighty God… our love to others is what matters.”
Gov. Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau thanked Tinubu for attending, noting that insecurity remains the state’s major setback. He said efforts are underway to promote peace and stability. Yilwatda described his late mother as selfless, humble and devoted to service, and thanked leaders and citizens for their support.
