Atiku slams Tinubu over Plateau visit, calls funeral attendance “political”

Atiku Abubakar accused President Bola Tinubu of insensitivity for attending a funeral in Plateau State instead of visiting communities affected by insecurity.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Plateau State for the burial of Mama Lydia Yilwatda Goshwe, mother of APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda. Tinubu attended the funeral in Jos on Saturday.

In a statement posted on his X handle, Atiku described the event as a “political funeral” and claimed it provided the president an opportunity to “celebrate and make merry with his party elite.” He said Tinubu had failed to visit states ravaged by violence, despite rising insecurity across the country.

“With large swathes of the country still under siege… it is deeply unfortunate that President Bola Tinubu has not, for once, found it worthy to visit any of the affected states,” he wrote. Atiku said the president’s attendance signalled “a heartless exhibition of disregard for empathy, compassion, and the dignity of human life.”

He cited attacks in Benue, Niger, Kwara and Plateau, accusing the APC-led government of ignoring bereaved citizens.
