The Nigerian Army has refuted claims that bandits overpowered troops in Kwara and stole heavy weapons, calling the report completely fabricated.

The Nigerian Army has dismissed an online report alleging that bandits overran troops in Obanla, Kwara State, and escaped with six General Purpose Machine Guns and more than 30,000 rounds of ammunition. Lieutenant Colonel Policao Okoye, Deputy Director, Army Public Relations for 2 Division, described the report as false and misleading.

He said troops of 148 Battalion (Rear), currently conducting clearance operations across Kogi and Kwara States, have continued to achieve “significant operational successes.” According to him, soldiers mounted a blocking position along the Kwara–Ekiti border and “neutralized two armed bandits and recovered two brand new AK-47 rifles.”

Okoye stressed that no Army location was overrun and no weapons were lost, calling the publication “a fabrication designed to mislead the public and undermine the morale of gallant troops.” He urged citizens to disregard the claim and provide credible intelligence to security forces.

The Army reaffirmed its resolve to dismantle criminal networks in Kogi, Kwara and neighbouring states.
