A family on holiday in Perth fled their Airbnb after finding a camera inside, prompting an investigation and a full refund from the company.

A family on holiday in Perth, Australia, fled their Airbnb after discovering a camera inside the rented home. Content creators Kriss and Kate Hardman said they found the device switched on shortly after checking into the four-bedroom house with their three children.

In a TikTok video, Kriss asked viewers, “Is that allowed in Airbnb’s?” as he filmed the camera on a white shelf. Viewers urged him to disconnect it, with one writing, “They have to tell you by law.” The couple said they left the property that night, adding, “It really spooked us and the safety of the family, three little kids, is what meant the most.” Airbnb later refunded their stay and helped them secure alternative accommodation.

The company stated, “We do not allow hosts to have security cameras or recording devices that monitor indoor spaces, even if these devices are turned off.”
