Police in Abuja say they are investigating the death of Arise TV anchor Sommie Maduagwu, who died after jumping from her apartment during an armed robbery.

The Nigerian police have promised justice for Arise News anchor Somtochukwu Christelle “Sommie” Maduagwu, who died during an armed robbery at her home in Katampe, Abuja, on September 29.

Police commissioner Ajao Adewale told Arise TV that armed robbers broke into the residential complex where Maduagwu lived. “Some armed robbers specifically gained access into Unique Apartments where Somi lives,” he said.

He explained that Maduagwu, who lived on the top floor, jumped from the third story out of fear. “The consequences are what we are seeing. It’s so sad, so unfortunate,” Adewale added.

Police officers reportedly arrived swiftly but were unable to save her life.

Arise News confirmed her death in a statement, describing Maduagwu as “a vibrant voice that engaged and connected with our viewers.”

Adewale said an investigation team had been set up. “No stone will be left unturned to ensure the perpetrators are tracked and brought to justice,” he said.
