INEC is hosting Ethiopian officials for a week-long study visit to exchange ideas on election management and strengthen Africa’s democratic institutions.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday hosted a delegation from Ethiopia currently in Nigeria to understudy the country’s electoral system and share ideas on election management.

The delegation, comprising officials of the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) and the Coalition of Ethiopian CSOs for Elections (CECOE), will spend one week engaging with INEC.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, described the visit as an opportunity for “mutual learning and deeper understanding” between Africa’s two most populous nations, noting their shared federal, multi-ethnic, and multi-religious structures.

Yakubu said INEC would hold nine technical sessions covering strategic planning, voter registration technology, election monitoring, stakeholder engagement, and inclusivity for displaced persons.

NEBE Deputy Chairman, Tesfaye Neway, commended INEC’s transparency and technological innovation, describing it as “a model for electoral institutions across the continent.”

He said Ethiopia hopes to learn from Nigeria’s experience in voter registration, civic education, and technology-driven reforms.
