The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is in mourning following the sudden death of its Deputy Publicity Secretary in Imo State, Hon. Ugochimereze Chinedu Asuzu.

Asuzu, also the convener of Ikoro Ndigbo and a notable voice in Igbo sociocultural discourse, reportedly slumped and died in the early hours of Wednesday. Details surrounding his passing remain unclear.

In a statement, the State Publicity Secretary, Chief MacDonald Amadi, described Asuzu’s death as “a devastating loss,” adding: “He was a man of uncommon intellect, conviction, and service.”

A native of Umuma Isiaku in Ideato South Local Government Area, Asuzu combined academia with grassroots activism. He held degrees in Theology and Political Science, was pursuing a doctorate, and was respected as a theologian, entrepreneur, cultural advocate, and prolific writer.

He also founded the Igbo Intelligentsia Renaissance and led the coalition group I Stand With ADC, which mobilised citizens in democratic participation.

Amadi further noted: “The passing of Chief Asuzu is an irreplaceable loss to his family, the ADC family, and the larger Nigerian society.”

Burial arrangements are yet to be announced. The party urged members to uphold Asuzu’s legacy of service and cultural renewal.
