Argentine authorities have arrested Nigerian national Ikechukwu N., marking the country’s first apprehension of a fugitive listed on both INTERPOL’s Red Notice and Silver Notice.
“Argentine authorities have captured Nigerian national Ikechukwu N., marking the country’s first arrest of a #RedNotice fugitive who was also the subject of an INTERPOL Silver Notice,” a statement released late Tuesday read.
According to INTERPOL, the suspect is believed to be the mastermind behind a vast international cybercrime syndicate. “The suspect is accused of orchestrating multiple romance scams involving thousands of women, and leading an international cybercrime network,” the report said.
The arrest was carried out under Operation Jackal, a global initiative coordinated by INTERPOL to dismantle West African organised criminal groups engaged in cyber fraud, money laundering and other transnational crimes. “It was carried out by Argentina’s Federal Police and Airport Security, with support from IFCACC, FIS, and INTERPOL Brazil,” the report added.
INTERPOL noted that the case also highlights the effectiveness of the Silver Notice pilot project, launched in January 2025, which aims to help countries trace and recover criminal assets.
The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
