Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has called for an independent investigation into the certificates of all members of President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet following the resignation of Minister Uche Nnaji over a forgery scandal.

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged an independent verification of the academic and professional certificates of all members of President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.

In a statement on Thursday, Mr Abubakar said the recent resignation of Uche Nnaji, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, after his certificate forgery scandal “brought to light the deep moral crisis at the heart of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration.”

He alleged that forgery had become a “state policy matter” under Mr Tinubu, who “himself has an unresolved certificate scandal.” Atiku added, “I, therefore, call for an independent, transparent, and comprehensive investigation into the credentials of all members of the Federal Executive Council, beginning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu himself.”

Atiku criticized the State Security Service for clearing Mr Nnaji despite his fake certificates and called for his prosecution, saying the agency’s failure of due diligence “has made Nigeria an object of ridicule before the world.”
