Senator Orji Uzor Kalu says while the Igbo deserve the presidency, he will support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid as mandated by his party.
The lawmaker representing Abia North Senatorial District, Orji Uzor Kalu, says that while the Igbo deserve a shot at the presidency, his loyalty lies with President Bola Tinubu, who remains his party’s candidate for 2027.
Kalu stated this on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he addressed questions about the 2027 general elections.
“Igbo needs presidency, yes. But I’m caged up in a party where I have signed to renominate President Tinubu,” he said.
According to the former Abia State governor, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has already made a collective decision to back Tinubu for a second term.
“The party I belong to has chosen a presidential candidate which is President Tinubu. We have made a decision as a party to field Tinubu for the second term even though I feel it’s for Igbo president, those thoughts are no longer feasible,” Kalu stated.
