The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called for urgent government action over persistent attacks on Christian communities, warning that inaction threatens national unity and public trust.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has expressed alarm over rising violence targeting Christian communities across the country, especially in the North. In a statement signed by its National President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, and titled “Christian Genocide — CAN Clarifies Position,” the group decried the killings, displacement, and destruction of churches, calling for immediate government intervention.

“CAN affirms, without hesitation, that many Christian communities in parts of Nigeria, especially in the North, have suffered severe attacks, loss of life, and destruction of places of worship,” the statement read.

Okoh said the association had reported numerous incidents to both local and international bodies, but responses had been slow. “The pain of Christian families torn apart by violence must never be treated as mere statistics,” he warned.

CAN urged security agencies to end years of impunity and ensure justice for victims, noting that true national healing requires “the courage to face our collective failures.”
