Interpol has confirmed the arrest of Nigerian fugitive Ikechukwu N. in Argentina over alleged romance scams and cybercrime, marking the first Red and Silver Notice capture in the country.

The International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) has confirmed the arrest of a Nigerian national, Ikechukwu N., by Argentine authorities, marking a major breakthrough in the global fight against cybercrime.

In a statement on its X handle Tuesday, INTERPOL disclosed that Ikechukwu had been wanted for allegedly orchestrating multiple romance scams involving thousands of women and for leading an international cybercrime network.

“Argentine authorities have captured Nigerian national Ikechukwu N., marking the country’s first arrest of a Red Notice fugitive who was also the subject of an INTERPOL Silver Notice,” the police organisation stated.

The arrest, according to INTERPOL, was part of Operation Jackal, a coordinated crackdown on West African organised criminal groups.

The operation, executed by Argentine federal forces with support from Brazil and other international partners, also targeted the tracing and recovery of criminal assets through the Silver Notice project launched in January 2025.

This latest arrest adds to a series of global crackdowns on cyber-enabled fraud linked to West African syndicates.

In 2024, Operation Jackal III seized $3m in illicit assets and froze 700 accounts, while in 2025, a Nigerian pleaded guilty in the US to a $405,000 romance scam.
