Nigerian youths under NYCN have launched a 30-day protest in Abuja, demanding reversal of their deregistration by CAC and the removal of its Registrar-General.
Dozens of Nigerian youths under the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) staged a protest Thursday at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) headquarters in Abuja over the deregistration of the council.
Led by NYCN President, Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, the demonstrators began what they described as a 30-day nationwide protest to pressure the CAC into reversing its decision and removing Registrar-General Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, SAN.
Protesters accused Magaji of contempt of court, arguing that the deregistration was effected despite the matter being before the Court of Appeal. They carried placards with inscriptions such as “Registrar-General Must Go” and “Respect Court Orders,” blocking the CAC’s main entrance while chanting solidarity songs.
“This issue has already been ruled on by the Federal High Court and is currently pending before the Court of Appeal. We insist that due legal processes must be followed,” Sukubo said.
NYCN officials, including National Secretary Gara Nongha, described the move as “deeply worrisome” and urged its immediate reversal.
Responding, Acting Registrar-General Julius Hanga said the deregistration was temporary and assured that the Commission was reviewing the matter.
